Closed

The concept behind the Closed collection was to develop a shoe that would be made of exchangeable and replaceable parts, and thus serve the individual needs of the wearer more effectively, as well as being environmentally friendly. The Closed have a removable insole ("footbed") and a removable sole. Each pair comes with the classic Trippen footbed: an anatomically formed cork insole, covered with vegetable-tanned calf leather. It can be exchanged for a sanded-down version that provides more comfort for those with a high arch. Some styles are also suitable for orthopaedic insoles. Please contact our Customer Service for further information in this regard.

The Trippen rubber soles are sewn on rather than glued. Worn out soles can be easily removed and replaced as a result. The old soles can be recycled and the rubber can be re-used. We currently offer four different soles for women and three for men. The Profil sole is unisex and has been thoughtfully designed to support the spine and the back. Unfortunately it collects quite a bit of dirt and small objects in its grooves. The alternative for men is the more casual Simple sole and the rustic Vigor sole. For women we offer the sleek Pamir sole that leaves a kind of hoof print, but can be a little slippery when wet, the textured Katmandu sole that perfectly matches our buffalo leather and the Block sole, whose segments allow for a smooth rolling motion when walking.

The concept behind the elk collection is based on the characteristics of the material itself. Elk is extremely soft and flexible. It has an elasticity that other leather does not possess. But what is most interesting for our designers is that they can create designs in elk that would not be possible in any other leather. The elk leather is chrome-tanned. The leather would lose its softness and flexibility if it were vegetable-tanned.

This collection, too, is made from vegetable-tanned calf leather referred to as wax leather. If the leather has been additionally tumbled it is called soft wax leather (waw). Vegetable-tanned leather is initially less soft than leather tanned with chrome. The softness comes when the shoes are worn in. Wax leather also gets darker when exposed to sunlight and thus often develops a beautiful antique look over time.
In terms of the sole construction the Closed Sandals resemble the other Closed collections. The hand-made insole is made up of up to five layers of felt and covered with leather, though, so each foot can shape its individual footbed.
The Closed Boots are characterised by the generous use of unusually soft leather, dramatic silhouettes or a sturdy and powerful appearance.
Every model is a personal interpretation of various themes that range from plants or animals, art and vanguard architecture to experimental pattern-cutting techniques which create kinetic sculptures. When walking, the slits open and close with the movement, turning the surface into a living and breathing entity. As material for this collection we use vegetable-tanned calf leather, referred to as wax leather (wax), or if it is tumbled, soft wax leather (waw).
What makes the Trippen Closed unique is their sleek design and original silhouettes. Our designs are based on unconventional pattern lines, whose priorities are the anatomy of the foot and enhancing and supporting movements. We try to be as environmentally friendly as possible, while simultaneously not compromising the quality of our products.
Trippen Closed, like all other Trippen shoes, are not just available for one season, but remain in the collection where they are continually modernised by adding new colours and leathers and gradually develop into classics.
Contours and three-dimen- sional shapes are classic Trippen themes. New silhouettes break with common perception; experimental pattern solutions allow designs far removed from tradition. Despite all experiments, the styles are always based on functional considerations.
The new styles combine experiment and function. The inspirations range from old-fashioned climbing boots and medieval leather armour to the architecture of urban spaces.
