Cups

1999 saw the development of the Trippen Cups. The idea behind the Cups was to produce an ergonomic shoe with a modern look and a spectacularly light wearing sensation. The Cups are designed to mirror the feeling of walking barefoot. The two separate sole units resemble shells which safely protect the heel and the ball, while the upper is soft and flexible. The pre- moulded full grain insole is made of thick, vegetable-tanned leather that is normally used for leather soles. This leather is heated and moulded around a form in shape of a foot. The resulting footbed supports the arch of the foot, simultaneously forming the skeleton of the shoe.

The rubber sole is sewn on with a strong yarn, giving the shoe a robust and unique handmade look.

For the Cup collection we use cowhide, calf leather, elk or buffalo as well as Lavato, a denim-lined sheep- or goatskin that is dyed by hand and was specially developed by Trippen.

The plain summer sole (s), the textured winter sole (w) and the new Eques sole (e) are made from 100% rubber. The summer sole is available in black, brown, smog, grey, honey, crepe and ice for men and women. So is the Eques sole in black, brown, smog, grey, green and ice; the winter sole exists only in female sizes and only in the colours black, brown, smog and ice. The Cups Crepe form their own range within the Cup collection, perfectly complementing the increasingly important theme of sustainable fashion.

The crepe sole (cr) is also unisex and consists of 100% natural rubber. The colour matches the natural colour of the material.

Since 2003 we have been using our much-loved elk in the Cup collection as well. The result are extremely comfortable shoes with unusual pattern lines that are often only possible in a soft and flexible material like elk. Following the great success over the last years we continue to add a number of new styles in elk in every season and supplemented the collection by an elaborately processed heavily textured elk leather referred to as “Muflone” (mfl).
The Cup collection gets larger and larger with every season. Not only the number of styles grows, but also the sources of inspiration. Classic or playful - the choice of styles appears to be almost endless.

Since 1999 the Cups with their combination of ergonomics, a modern look and a new wearing sensation present a responsible alternative to conventional trainers. Since then many have developed into real classics.
The first Cups looked very much like their concept: a "designer" alternative to trainers. Over the years this developed into an extensive collection. Besides sporty classics like Mug and Bowl the men’s collection also includes more daring styles like Nathan, Surf or Horse. The Mens Cups come up about one size larger that usual.

Lavato means "washed" in Italian and is our term for the denim-lined sheep- or goatskin that is washed at high temperatures and subsequently dyed by hand, which was specially developed by Trippen. Thanks to the tie-dye effect with its’ uneven colouring that is the result of this elaborate process every pair is unique. The fact that the Cups Lavato form an own group among the Cup collection shows the tremendous success of this highly fashionable range.

The Cup boots look very elegant thanks to their lightweight design. Their sources of inspiration range from the demure style of the 80s, images from 1960s sci-fi movies, erotic bondage games and themes like volume, plasticity and velocity to the boundaries of pattern technique.

The Cups Crepe perfectly complement the increasingly important theme of sustainable, socially responsible fashion. While the new models View and Shore are only available in this design, many earlier models like Bowl, Mug or Pot can also be combined with the new crepe sole. In this range, too, men’s styles come up about one size larger that usual.
