Summer 2010

Trends

Each new collection is inspired by diverse influences. On the one hand, current fashion trends are continued and interpreted, while on the other political, social and cultural events and personal experiences are incorporated within the design. One theme this summer is the vision of Italy in 1950s Germany. Sleepy villages, picturesque harbours and old fishing boats with tattered nets are synonymous with romance and the yearning for distant places. The sun, beaches, faded colours along with forties and fifties beach fashion, are essential components of the collective longing for an idyllic holiday by the sea. Italian souvenirs and pop songs reflect this desire. Abstraction celebrates a renaissance in the Fine Arts. Asymmetrical shapes inspired as a result also find their way into everyday culture. Female fashion is influenced by Dior´s "New Look". Petticoats, peep-toes and pastel shades also constitute an expression of the American attitude to life in those days.

Another of the current collection´s major themes is fashion during the time of the Spanish Baroque period. Influenced by the Counter-Reformation, strict, mathematic shapes supersede Renaissance fashion, which was not considered sufficiently devout. The colour black predominates. The natural body shape is hidden under characteristic padding. Incisions in the surface create an impressive three-dimensionality.

The traditional way of life of Gauchos and Vaqueros was a further source of inspiration. Thick, apparently heavily-aged leather, plaited straps and fringes bring to mind their folkloristic clothing and handmade goods. Natural colours and raw edges underline the rustic character. Another motive this season is Art Nouveau, with its extensive floral ornaments and intricate lines. Its penchant for fairytales and the imaginary is mirrored in the new collection in the same way as its delicate fragility of form.

The elaborately braided, decorative edging of this new children´s style emphasises the high-quality character of traditional handicraft.
The reversion to time-honoured traditions also draws attention to customs and costumes: high-quality materials that have been processed with care and elaborately decorated by hand. The new Womens Closed models possess something pleasant, a feeling of security.

The gaze leads far back into the past. The new Penna models are reminiscent of the world of the Middle Ages. Flaps and straps bring to mind historical protective clothing and communicate - like the folkloristic references - a feeling of constancy.

Time-consuming hand-knitted uppers in the Cup collection refer to the revival of traditional handicrafts. Folding experiments in the style of the Japanese art of »Origami« constitute a striking contrast.
The variety of styles in the new Mens Closed collection ranges from folding experiments and shafts whose individual pieces layered one over the other push together like scale armour with every movement to classic Men´s boots.
Inspirations for the new x+os collection range from the timeless elegance of formal reduction and medieval leather armour to a renaissance of traditional handicrafts.
Rivets and leather straps in the new Happy collection are reminiscent of the roots of Punk subculture, whose internal and external rebellion against social norms was also a reaction to the strained economic situation of the time.
Patterns based on elementary geometrical shapes are one key design feature of the latest Box collection.
The omnipresent desire for protection and security presents another clearly visible influence.
